Welcome to the home page of the Law Offices of Daniel E. Champion (the “Firm”). The Firm’s practice emphasizes Commercial Litigation and, in particular, Creditors' Rights, Commercial Collections, Prejudgment Remedies and Enforcing Judgments.
In addition, the Firm has substantial experience handling claims that arise out of failed attorney-client relationships, e.g., the representation of clients pursuing claims against attorneys and law firms for legal malpractice, the representation of other attorneys and law firms pursuing the collection of unpaid accounts owed by former clients, etc. The Firm’s principal attorney, Daniel E. Champion, Esq., has been licensed to practice law since 1983 and has been evaluating the propriety of legal fees and helping law firms and individual attorneys collect their accounts receivable since 1988.
With offices located in the metropolitan areas of Kansas City (Missouri), Los Angeles (California) and the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, the Firm is available to provide legal assistance throughout California, Missouri and Texas. Also, with the assistance of local counsel, the Firm regularly assists clients with matters in other domestic and international jurisdictions when Mr. Champion’s expertise is needed in jurisdictions where he is not licensed to practice. Mr. Champion is licensed to practice law in the States of California, Michigan, Missouri and Texas.
The Firm also has “of counsel” relationships with the Los Angeles law firm of Burris, Schoenberg & Walden, LLP and the Rabuse Law Firm (formerly Livgard & Rabuse, PLLP) of Minneapolis . These relationships allow us to provide services in a wide range of transactional and litigation matters. In addition, other very respected law firms have recognized Mr. Champion’s expertise and periodically have retained Mr. Champion as a contract attorney when Mr. Champion’s expertise is needed. For example, since 2002, Mr. Champion has been and continues to be a contract attorney for the international law firm of Squire Sanders & Dempsey LLP.
Having graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1983, and after 15 years of practicing with other firms, including 11 years with one of the largest law firms in the world where he was the Chairman of the Los Angeles Creditors’ Rights Department, in 1997, Mr. Champion formed the Law Offices of Daniel E. Champion so that he may continue to provide clients with the high quality legal service of large law firms, but at a substantially lower cost to the client.
During his legal career, Mr. Champion has represented a very diverse group of large and small clients including domestic and international financial institutions, manufacturers and service providers, as well as business owners and the government of the People’s Republic of China. The amounts in controversy have ranged from several thousand to several million dollars.
Mr. Champion also has devoted substantial time serving the business community and the public at large in his capacities as the Sixth Congressional District Human Rights Commissioner for the State of Missouri, a member of the Board of Directors for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Kansas City, a member of the Jackson County (Missouri) Blue Ribbon COMBAT Review Committee, and a mediator/arbitrator for the Fee Dispute Resolution Committee of the State Bar of Missouri.
